The final week of this block of Sketch Up Friday is upon us! The next block commences on Friday 12th June. Fingers crossed we may be able to access the building by that stage and draw in a socially distanced manner.
However, for now, we are going to have a wander around a space that you would be unable to access, even if physically onsite. I know that I promised an upstairs room, but thought this one might be of interest? The Old Refectory is usually closed to the public. One of the oldest surviving spaces in the mansion, it boasts an incredible, three-bay, arch-braced collar beam roof with three tiers of (restored) windbracing and a carved, wooden entranceway. There is also a panel of decorative plaster above the doorway, visible in one image.
Again, these photographs were taken for personal use and may not provide the scope or angles that you might have enjoyed if in the lcation. However, I hope that they give you an indication of the room.
It might be interesting to set yourself a time limit. We would usually have about 1.5 hours of drawing time during Sketch Up - perhaps see what you can achieve within a similar time frame? I also think it will be interesting to see whether your style changes - I find that my drawings become tighter when I am working from photographs as opposed to life. Do let me know how you find it and any differences you notice?
