Drawing in the Sunshine

It's been a while. I've found it tricky to create windows to create. It felt good to draw. Playing with different materials added a bit of fun too and there is something quite magical about being bathed in dappled sunshine under a canopy of branches. 🌿 Everything is still so topsy turvy.

I've Made a Film! Sketch Up YouTube is HERE!

The final, planned #sketchupfriday is upon us! As we are still unable to access the mansion, I have been back on site at the Arts Mansion and filmed some of the interior rooms. To aid the process of sharing, I have now created a Sketch Up Friday YouTube channel! It's all totally new ground for me and very exciting!!! You can find my first film from 19th June, available via this link here:. We tour around Dame Emily Smyth's bedroom. Apologies as it's very amateur and unscripted. I feel like this might be a nice way forward in the interim. It might tide us over nicely until we can sketch onsite again? Do please email me and let me know how you find it? Hopefully you'll be able to get a real se

Got that Friday Sketching Feeling. . .

It's almost Friday!!!! It's that time, to pick up a pen/ pencil/ paints - whatever you like to use - and draw some little seen nooks and crannies, found in Ashton Court Mansion! So, here are this week's pics to inspire! I REAAAAALLLY wanted to show you the windows, so they are kind of the bonus - as I did promise that I would provide images from the Vaulted Hall this week, which can be seen below: It might be interesting to set yourself a time limit. We would usually have about 1.5 hours of drawing time during Sketch Up - perhaps see what you can achieve within a similar time frame? I also think it will be interesting to see whether your style changes - I find that my drawings become tighter

Great Staircase Sketch Up

How is everyone doing? I hope that this finds all well in your world and that you aren't going too bonkers? So, the final, planned block of Sketch Up Friday is upon us! I wanted to provide a bit more of an overview of what you can expect when you walk up the great staircase to the first floor. The images that I have uploaded this week - hopefully - give you a sense of looking around the space that would greet you. The photographs have been put into an order to help create that sense of space. As you ascend the stairs you are met by the wonderful panelling and bannisters, whilst also seeing through the ceiling rafters to the second floor. At the top of this first set of stairs, we turn to loo

Arts Mansion Residency Delay

Tomorrow was to be the first day of my artist residency at Ashton Court mansion. As with all of my contracts from March through to July, this has also been postponed. Due to last until the end of June, I was really looking forward to intensive drawing time in this incredible space. As part of my residency, the #Sketchupfriday sessions were running and I was to deliver a week of workshops to local primary schools in conjunction with Historic England and Artspace Lifespace. I am most sad that this has been cancelled for this year as we had wonderful plans to inspire the students to engage with the space, it's history, observe and create! The whole affair would have culminated in an exhibition
